In the midst of all of the craziness going on in 2020- the good and the bad- I’m happy to finally announce that we have moved into a new house! A new home tour is coming soon, but for now I wanted to share how we transformed our traditional brick fireplace in our family room into a beautifully modern black brick fireplace with a simple black matching mantel.

Before we even closed on our new home we knew we wanted to paint the fireplace to give it an updated look. Since we decided to go with black on the brick I also chose black for the new mantel because a black-on-black fireplace is the perfect contrast for our newly painted white walls, which we just updated from the dull (ugly) grayish-brown walls of our new home. To start, we ripped down the outdated white wooden mantel piece (pictured above) which I quite enjoyed because I could not stand the sight of it! Once we got the old mantel down, we went right into painting:

We finished painting the fireplace and walls, and I was able to get my Christmas decorations up just in time for the holidays. I’m keeping it simple this year with a 6 ft elegant Christmas tree and stockings with a bit of garland hung over the fireplace.

Transforming our traditional brick fireplace was a great starting point to renovating and updating our new home. We have many more plans and projects coming, so make sure you follow me on instagram and LIKE our page on facebook for behind the scenes videos and to ask questions!

But for now, happy holidays from my family, the Barbee gang, to yours!
